The second annual Falcon Lake Walleye Masters Cup goes down in less than a week. This year’s field at the second stop of the Central Walleye Trail is at a whopping 63 boats. The competition is sure to be tough and anglers will need to pull out all of the stops to finish in the money. Teams have already started their pre-fish scouting trips and most early reports have them finding some walleyes in the borderline slot limit range with the odd ‘not quite over’. This lake lies in the Manitoba ‘Area A’ exception zone so that means that all walleye touching 45cm (approx 17 5/8 inches) up to and including 69.99cm (approx. 27.5 inches) have to be released immediately. Teams can weigh a maximum of two ‘over-sizers’ to make up their four fish bag limit. It will most likely take at least one big kickerfish to challenge for the title, however bringing in four solid ‘slots’ will not rule you out.
Organizer Brad Melnyk has been hard at work the last few weeks getting everything organized and ready for the big day. The prizes that will be given out in addition to cash are unbelievable. His team is still short a few hands to help out on Saturday so if you are interested in volunteering and are available, please contact Brad at 204-998-4808 or Eric Labaupa at 204-995-6583 as soon as you can.
